Diabetes & Insulin
How do I inject my dose?
You can inject your dose over your abdominal area, and stay a few centimetres away from the belly button.

How frequently do I need to check my blood sugar?
That depends on how often you inject insulin. You should check your blood sugar the same number of times you inject insulin daily. Record your blood sugar in a blood sugar log.
What do I need to look out for?
-
If you encounter dizziness, visual disturbance, tingling, weakness, tremors, sweating or shaking, you may be having a hypoglycemic attack (low blood sugar)
-
Take 2 dextrose tablets immediately, and recheck your blood sugar in 15 minutes.
-
If your blood sugar is still below 4, take another 2 dextrose tablets and seek medical attention.
-
Be cautious if you are exercising a lot more than usual, skipping meals, or drinking alcohol. All of these can trigger a hypoglycemic attack.

What do I need to know about driving and insulin?
-
Check your blood sugar before driving
-
If your blood sugar is below 5, take 2 dextrose tablets and recheck your sugar in 15 minutes. Repeat as necessary and only drive if your blood sugar is above 5.
How do I adjust my insulin dosage?
Use the calculator below as we discussed in clinic. Please note this is only to be used under my guidance with my current patients. Adjusting insulin incorrectly can be life-threatening!
